4th Trip: Cabrillo Pier and Belmont Pier

For our 4th trip out we went down to Cabrillo Pier and Belmont Pier on 2/3/08 Super Bowl Sunday. It had rained in the morning and things had cleared up by about 1pm so we set out. I decided to try Cabrillo first, and because of the rain parking was free. The afternoon winds had started, and even though the sun had come out it was cold. We stayed for about 1/3 and Jonathan fished for bait while I threw plastic. Tide was out as well so we did not have any luck. The other anglers that were out only caught one fish, a white croaker while we were there.

So we packed up and headed down to Belmont. Got there around 2:30 and the winds were still coming in from the west. We tried to fish the middle of the pier first, but with no buildings or protection it was too windy. We moved down to the east side of the end of the pier and set up. No wind here and I casted out our bait hook and some squid on a slider rig. We spent about 1 1/2 hours, and did not get any bites. Lots of trash in the water from the storm and it was dirty as well. We decided to pack up and Jonathan brought up our bait rig. I was not watching and he yelled “Fish!” I went over and found 2 anchovies on the rig. I used a smaller #10 lucky lura set up this time. Too bad we were packing up otherwise I would have used them. Let the both go for another day.
